The remains of Northampton State Hospital

In the summer of 2001, I took my first pictures of Northampton State Hospital (only the exterior - I don't venture inside buildings AT ALL. Too chicken.) Sadly, the only one that I could find was of the bench at the entry to the facility, but I did find the negatives, which I'm going to try to have processed.

Anyhow, I went back there today to snap some more exterior pics, now that the Kirkbride building has been demolished. Condos are springing up, and the construction workers looked at me suspiciously as I snapped away with my BlackBerry, but I didn't even get out of my car -- again, the chicken reflex.

This building was far out in a field. It looks like it's been condemned, and it's spooky as all hell with those dead weeds and grass around it.

The building marked "Stage." They're re-roofing it for some reason.

Condo building on the far right. Abandoned structure dead center.

I can't help but wonder who would WANT to live in this remnant of utter human misery, when the mentally ill were locked away in the farthest cells.
